- Raccoon
Creek Watershed AMD Survey and Restoration Plan
completed in 2000. Identifies and prioritizes AMD problems
in the watershed and recommends long-term solutions. Project
value $30,600.
- Langeloth
Bore Hole AMD Passive Wetland System in
Slovan treats the second largest iron discharge into Raccoon
Creek, removing about 50 tons of iron per year. Completed
in 1999. Project value $61,706.
- Hamilton
AMD Vertical Flow Wetland System
in Findlay Township removes about 40 tons of iron per
year from tributary Potato Garden Run. Completed in 2003.
Project value $245,000.
- JB2
AMD Passive Treatment System
in Cherry Valley removes about 15 tons of iron and 2 tons
of aluminum per year from the creek's headwaters. Completed as a Vertical Flow Wetland in 2004. Project value $422,000. Slated to undergo conversion to a FeAlMn Bed in 2008. System owned and operated by Independence Conservancy.
- Solar
Mine Discharge Anoxic Limestone Drain AMD Treatment System
removes about 21 tons of iron and 0.5 tons of aluminum per year from
the headwaters of tributary St. Patrick's Run. ALD installed in 2003 during construction of Section 54C of the Findlay Connector, Interstate 576. Engineering study of system effectiveness completed in 2007. Project value of study $25,000. System owned and operated by Independence Conservancy.

Creek Canoe Trail
established launch sites at Witherspoon Road, Raccoon
Park, Independence Marsh, Green Garden Plaza, and Rocky
Bottom.
- Burgettstown
Area School District's Outdoor Education Center
provides hands-on AMD, wildlife and water quality studies
for local students. Completed in 2002. Project value $48,000.
- Smith
Township, Moffet Mill, Pleasant Drive, Polecat Hollow
and Kennedy Hill Cleanup Campaigns
since 1999 removed over 300 tons of garbage and 25,000
tires from Raccoon Creek's valleys. Project value $275,000.
- Spring
and Fall macroinvertebrate studies
monitor stream health at Joffre, Burgettstown, Bavington,
Murdocksville and Potato Garden Run.
